Private Social Security Accounts
Michael Kinsley has written a compelling logical argument that Private Social Security Accounts will not work period. Check it out in the LA Times (Registration may be required). As he says,
Discussion is pointless.
By the way, if we want to increase "ownership" of retirement funds without harming the fixed, guaranteed base income, why aren't we talking about liberalizing the IRAs rules and strongly encouraging participation in 401ks? What Bush is suggesting appears to me to be a 401k like fund that reduces Social Security benefits for the participants.
