A Minor Milestone

Some time over night, the Site Meter counter near the bottom of the side bar on the right passed 1000 hits. That means that there have been over 1000 hits at Abnormal Interests since February 22 of this year. Over twice as many individual pages have been accessed. The Site Meter number is likely somewhat understated because, stupidly, I did not put the "Site Meter" code on every page until the end of February or early in March. I only had it on the main page so anyone who came to the site via a direct link or a search engine link would not be counted unless they also when to the main page. For the record, my own visits are not counted.

I consider February 16, 2005 Abnormal Interests' birthday. I did a few experimental posts, a few overhead posts, and one, more or less, substitutive post (Branding Intelligent Design Creationism) starting January 29, 2005. That was when I completed my software setup. But I first told Google and the world about Abnormal Interests on February 16.

Until March 18, the average number of daily hits was five or fewer. Then I posted Where is Herbert Spencer When You Need Him? with a trackback to Carl Zimmer's Loom and the hits rose to about 20 a day. I even had an 84 hit day! It scared the heck out of me. Then, on March 20, DarkSyd of Unscrewing the Inscrutable gave me a great plug and things have grown steadily from there. Somewhere along the way, PZ Myers, of Pharyngula, was kind enough to put Abnormal Interests on his blog roll. I take this opportunity to thank both DarkSyd and PZ for the boost. The last few days have averaged over 35 hits a day. Now these numbers are several orders of magnitude below sites I envy: Pharyngula, Dispatches from the Cultural Wars, or Preposterous Universe. But, then, I am who I am; and they are who they are. And they are among the very best on the web. How do PZ, Ed, and Sean manage informative, entertaining, posts every day and keep their regular jobs?

I am getting more readership than I thought I would at this point. I want to thank my repeat readers for the growth in readership and for their continued indulgence. They must have Abnormal Interests also.

This is the last time you will be entertained with a post like this until the site reaches, say, 5000 total hits or 100 hits a day. It will be hard to resist those numerological milestones. Hopefully there will be a less abnormal post latter in the day.
