85% Liberal and Loving It
Feministe led me to a quiz at Bolgthings. The quiz seeks to measure just how liberal or conservative you are. Before I comment on the quiz here are my results;
Your Political Profile |
Overall: 15% Conservative, 85% Liberal
Social Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Ethics: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
As Feministe's headline correctly says, this quiz is OK "If One Believes in Binaries." For example, one question asks, "It's more important for our country" to reduce the deficit and national debt or to help poor and helpless?
The problem is that without control of the deficit inflation may/will/might/is likely/perhaps will occur. And inflation is a cruelly disproportionate tax on the poor. Virtually every question in the quiz is like this; a choice between two possibilities that either are highly interactive or are not policy choices in any real world.
Because of this, I was a little surprised that the results matched my own self-evaluation. On social issues, I am very liberal and on financial issues, I am more conservative. I am not sure what "Personal Responsibility" and "Ethics" means in the context of this survey. I tend to think that personal responsibility is always exercised within the context of the possibilities and that within that context everyone is ethically required to act responsibly toward themselves and others. I think that it is wrong for public officials to lie about public matters like war, torture, and social security; therefore, I guess my ethics is 100% liberal.
