Will the Political Exploitation of Terri Schiavo Ever End?
According to a CNN report Jeb Bush, the Governor of Florida and the brother of the President of the United States, has asked Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney Bernie McCabe to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago. What raises Governor Bush's suspicions? The differences in the time of Mrs. Schiavo's collapse as reported by Michael Schiavo over a thirteen-year period and the time of the 911 call are deeply troubling to Governor Bush. Here's the evidence that has Florida's Governor so upset.
Bush said Michael Schiavo testified in a 1992 medical malpractice trial that he found his wife collapsed at 5 a.m., and he said in a 2003 television interview that he found her about 4:30 a.m. He called 911 at 5:40 a.m.
Take a moment, think of a traumatic event in your life that took place over a decade ago, and try to recall the exact time it occurred. I can't remember the time of my mother's death and it was in 1992. At worst, the upsetting evidence reflects a mistake on Michael's part to properly diagnose the urgency of the situation. But even Senator Frist made a startlingly wrong diagnoses with regard to Mrs. Schiavo. At best, this upsetting evidence is that Michael Schiavo has a faulty human memory.
Jeb Bush is not some lost soul wallowing in conspiracy theories and other delusions (I hope). Jeb Bush is a governor. Jeb Bush knows better. Jeb Bush is knowingly exploiting this tragedy for his own purposes.

But now 15 years later, Jeb Bush is still pushing for it when he knows damn well there is nothing such an investigation could achieve. Michael was the only person there when she collapsed. If he'd waited as long as they allege, she would never have been revived in the first place. End of argument. Except, of course, Bush isn't really interested in truth here. He is interested only in continuing to exploit this issue for political gain. [emphasis added]
And Kevin Drum thinks it's a vendetta.
The Bush children have always been distinguished by a fiery unwillingness to back down combined with an almost bestial pursuit of revenge against anyone who has ever crossed them. They don't want to beat their opponents, they want to destroy them.
He may just be correct.
