Bigfoot and Bison Hair

DNA tests have shown that the "Bigfoot" hair sample found on a bush near Teslen in the Yukon is "100% identical to the hair of a bison.

"The DNA sequence from the Teslin hair sample produced a 100-per-cent match with known bison sequences," said Coltman at an occasionally hilarious news conference yesterday.

"This hair sample could not have come from the hairy, bipedal animal reportedly sighted in Teslin last week."

The hair DNA was so degraded it was probably years old and could have come from a stuffed animal, he said.

It could be a consequence of the tanning process used to preserve hides and trophy mounts," said Coltman. [London Free Press]

Coltman is wildlife geneticist David Coltman from the University of Alberta. But details like evidence and analysis never convinced true believers. Trent Smarch who found the fur also claims the he and one Chucka Choumanthas saw the sasquatch from which it came.

Even if he picked up the wrong fur, Trent says he knows what he saw. He continues to believe it was the legendary bushman. [CBS News]

Now I know nothing about Mr. Trent other than that he claims to have seen a sasquatch and brought in a sample of old bison hair to prove it. But I'd start looking for another explanations if my best evidence for a sasquatch sighting turned out to be bison hair.
