Did Trudeau Know This or Was it Just an Obvious Guess?
The top pay rate at the White House for senior aides like Chief of Staff Andy Card and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove is now $161,000, according to an internal White House list of staff salaries compiled as of July 1 [National Journal]
This is only a 2.5% raise; senior aides earned $157,000 last year. It is likely only a scheduled inflation adjustment. The raise is not just for Rove and Card, it applies to I. Lewis Libby of the Vice Presidents staff too. It also applies to all high level White House aides. But with Rove and Libby likely targets of the special prosecutor's investigation of the outing of Plame the timing couldn't be better for Rove and Libby, what with rising legal bills and all.
Doonesbury "predicted" this in today's cartoon when he has the President say to "Turd Blossom" (aka Karl Rove) "Can you say promotion?"
