Terror Hits London
By now, you've heard the news: at least 33 dead (likely many more), hundreds injured. An Al Qaeda sub-group has taken credit the coordinated attack and they certainly deserve the blame.
I want to be as clear as I can about one thing. This appears to be the fault of a group of pathological religious fanatics. It is not the fault of George W. Bush or Tony Blair.
Having said that, I continue to wonder why the US and the UK, in other words, "the coalition of the willing," did not go after these killers with the same zeal that they went after Saddam Hussein. Following 9/11 there was near unanimous support, worldwide, for decisive action against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and elsewhere. But we sent only a few hundred troops. Then for no reason that has stood the test of time, we sent well over one hundred thousand troops to Iraq. So now, Al Qaeda and their segregates still operate in Afghanistan and Pakistan and they are now in Iraq too.
Secondly, we need to watch our own pathological religious fanatics to be sure that they do not gather enough political power to restructure our own government in the image of Al Qaeda with a Bible rather than a Koran.
Let's go after the enemies of our nation and of our enlightenment driven culture and not the personal enemies of our leaders. If we do that, there will be fewer terrorist attacks.
