Harriet Miers - The Perfect Supreme Court Nominee: No Experience, No Record

President Bush has just nominated Harriet Miers to be an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. ACSBolg has a short biography on her. While she is a long time friend of the President and is currently a lawyer on his staff, she has also contributed to both Al Gore's primary election campaign in 1988 ($1000.00) and to the DNC Services Corporation/Democratic National Committee also in 1988 ($1000.00). The real story is that she has no judicial experience and virtually no public record.

Here we have yet another political appointment of a person with no direct experience. This time it's a lifetime appointment. This isn't FEMA anymore. But cronyism is still alive and well. None of this addresses how Meirs will rule if confirmed. She may turn out to be an outstanding Justice. There's just no way to know.

The whole thing seems a little weird to me. This is the only explanation I've found that makes any kind of sense...

Yeh, I think Slingshot is likely correct. It's largely about making sure that the Administration's policies on terror are upheld when the reach the Supreme Court but I also think there is political cowardliness in it and I guess I am glad for that.
