Thank You Harriet Meirs and Your Law Firm's PAC
Those of us on the left need to thank Harriet Meirs not only for her contributions to the DNC and Al Gore in 1988 but also for her law firms contributions to Hillary Rodham Clinton's senatorial campaign committee in 2001 and Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri's re-election bid in 2000 as well as contributions to Louisiana's Sen. Mary Landrieu and Rep. William Jennings Jefferson, Rep. Lloyd Doggett and Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas. Oh yea, they also supported Democrat Nicholas Lampson, who ran unsuccessfully against Tom DeLay in 2000. They contributed to DeLay also. You can read the Federal Election Commission report here.
There are two stories on World Net Daily and they don't seem to like it. Before the Bush administration is out, I think every involved person on the right as well as the left will know that Bush cannot be trusted.
As Kos said on Daily Kos ,
Note that Miers didn't directly contribute to Clinton. And for all we know, Miers had nothing to do with her firm's PAC's decision. I'm sure she has other partners who are Democrats who pushed for those donations. But in a realm where the Right is looking for any excuse to distrust her, this just adds fuel to the fire.
I'm beginning to believe that the President did not talk to Meirs about Roe v. Wade or anything else.
For a more reasoned discussion of what is behind much of the drive to place Meirs on the Court, go read what Ed Brayton has to say at Dispatches from the Cultural Wars.
