Mosaics from the Church at Megiddo Prison
It's not exactly news anymore but a possible mid-third to early-fourth century Christian church was found on the grounds of Megiddo prison in Israel. If the dating holds up then it is among the very oldest churches found in Israel. The mosaics are spectacular. Yahoo has a good slide show of twenty pictures of them. Be sure to look at the fish mosaic. The fish symbol predates the cross as a sign of Christian presence.
My usual concern applies here. Whenever you read that something is the oldest or the most important or the biggest be careful. Remember, a find need not be the oldest or the most important or the biggest to be a very important find and this is a very significant find.
