WWW - the Number of the Beast!
Numerology has always found a place in popular religion. Even organized religion has not been immune to it. But hardly any number has generated so much misguided enthusiasm as 666.
One Daryl Breese has noticed that WWW (as in http://www . . . ) equals the Hebrew letters vav vav vav which are the numeric equivalent of 666. So there you go. The World Wide Web has the mark of the beast as "revealed" in The Revelation of John 13:1-18. Here's what Mr. Breese has to say of his mission,
The Mission here is to publicly unveil The Beast of Revelation and The Anti-Christ Messianism. Technically, the WWW is the Fourth Kingdom (Dan 7:23) and Beast from the Sea (Rev 13:1) where Good and Evil have the ultimate tug of war - over Souls. The only part of the "Mark" (http//:www.) of the Beast St. John recognized was www., which in Traditional Hebrew of Christ's time (also called the language of God)--- was 666. Wisdom, understanding, truth.
And he tells us this on his website (http://666www.isthebeast.com/index.html)!
Well all this may make sense to some people. But what if (a) the text of Revelations 13:18 reads 616 as is witnessed by some manuscripts and papyri and referenced by Irenaeus or even 665 as witnessed by one late manuscript? See my post on the possibilities. What if (b) all this numerology is just a lot of nonsense? I, for one, choose b.

There is also an interesting write up about Mr. Breese, his bright idea and the book he is promoting on PR Web. And it's all on Satan's web.
