Our Moral Obligation
I've said it before. Even thought I believe that the invasion of Iraq was profoundly immoral, we now have a moral obligation to "see it through."
Here's a snippet of Sunday's MSNBC interview with General Anthony Zinni,
MR. RUSSERT: If you were the president of the United States right now, what would you do about Iraq?GEN. ZINNI: Well, unfortunately, Iraq is—we can’t let it fall apart. It is part of a whole myriad of issues that we have regarding stability in the Middle East. We’re committed to it now. We have to see this through.
General Zinni thought the war would be costly. I think the peace will be far more costly but, whatever the price we have a moral obligation to undo what we have done and perhaps improve on what was there before we arrived.
The whole interview with General Zinni is worth reading. It starts about half way down the page. I think the war was immoral and the occupation incompetent. General Zinni seems to agree on the latter point, even if he may disagree on the former.
