My Ethical Philosophy - So Says the Internet
Janet at Adventures in Ethics and Science took this quiz to determine her "ethical style." She seemed happy that the quiz didn't say she was "bossy." I decided to take the ethics quiz too. And I'm glad that " arbitrary and capricious" were not possible results. Here is my profile.
Jean-Paul Sartre (100%)
John Stuart Mill (98%)
Kant (87%)
Jeremy Bentham (81%)
Ayn Rand (75%)
Aquinas (74%)
Aristotle (67%)
Epicureans (64%)
St. Augustine (59%)
Plato (46%)
Prescriptivism (44%)
Spinoza (38%)
Nel Noddings (35%)
Stoics (34%)
Ockham (25%)
David Hume (21%)
Cynics (14%)
Nietzsche (10%)
Thomas Hobbes (7%)
I'm not surprised that Mill and Kant are high on the list. In fact, I would have thought that Kant might have been a little higher than Mill. I was surprised that Sartre was at the top. The authors of the quiz gave the following as the top two elements of Sartre's ethics,
When we choose something, we affirm the value of our choice because we have chosen it above other choicesWhen we choose something for ourselves, we should choose it for all people.
I'm not altogether sure that these mean, but if I close one eye and tilt my head in just right way I think I can agree with them.
