I Support the Presidents Right to Use the S Word

Except, of course, during involuntarily swearing resulting from hitting my thumb with a hammer or the like, I don't use many obscenities in my daily discourse. Sure, a voluntary obscenity every day or two can spice up one's life. But I know people who seem to think that it is improper to utter any single English sentence without two or three obscenities and a couple of blasphemies thrown in for good measure. The fact is, I think that a lot of people who, in my mind, overuse obscenities are just too lazy to try to say something coherent without them.

But if President Bush wants to use an occasional obscenity, I don't think the news media should be required to bleep him out. If the President is not representative of "contemporary community standards," who is?
