Something Fundamentally Great About America

Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift, lawyer for Guantanamo detainee Salim Ahmed Hamdan, said on June 29 after the Supreme Court ruled that the military tribunals set up by the Bush Administration were unconstitutional,

Some little guy, you know, a fourth grade educated Yemeni, like Mr. Hamdan can sue the most powerful man in the world and win in our highest court. That's something fundamentally great about America, something we should be celebrating to the rest of the world. [transcribed from CBS video]

This is the best Fourth of July message I have heard this year. While the Declaration of Independence may have provided the defining moment for both this day and our liberty, the Constitution of the United States is the seal of that liberty. Long may our Constitution live!
