Very Good News: A Small Step in the Return to the Fraternity of Moral Nations
If true and consistently applied this is great news. For the first time in a long time we will be able to apologize for our actions with our heads up.
The Bush administration said Tuesday that all detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and in all other U.S. military custody around the world are entitled to protections under the Geneva Conventions.White House spokesman Tony Snow said the policy, outlined in a new Defense Department memo, reflects the recent 5-3 Supreme Court decision blocking military tribunals set up by President Bush. The task now is to make sure that there is not some caveat in all of this that will give the current administration wiggle room. And I am worried that Tony Stow did say that this is not a policy reversal. It is!
The next step is to find a moral way out of an immoral war in Iraq.
