I'm a Little Confused

According to the yesterday's Daily Mail, the Vatican Exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth said recently that Hitler and Stalin where possessed of the Devil. Then the Daily Mail tells us,

According to secret Vatican documents recently released wartime pontiff Pope Pius XII attempted a "long distance" exorcism of Hitler which failed to have any effect.

On this Father Amorth says,

"It's very rare that praying and attempting to carry out an exorcism from distance works.

"Of course you can pray for someone from a distance but in this case it would not have any effect.

"One of the key requirements for an exorcism is to be present in front of the possessed person and that person also has to be consenting and willing.

"Therefore trying to carry out an exorcism on someone who is not present, or consenting and willing would prove very difficult.

"However I have no doubt that Hitler was possessed and so it does not surprise me that Pope Pius XII tried a long distance exorcism."

So I guess it might have worked if Hitler consented and he was in the presence of Pius XII. Of course, it might not have. If this magic worked then the world might have been spared the horrors of Nazism.

I never knew God's powers followed something like an inverse square law. Perhaps Pius XII should have given Hitler a phone call. A Rabbi, now a well-known archaeologist, told me many years ago that he once preformed a circumcision over the phone. If a Rabbi can do that certainly a Pope could do an exorcism.

And finally we read this,

He [Father Amorth] said that [J.K.]Rowling's books contain innumerable positive references to magic, "the satanic art" and added the books attempt to make a false distinction between black and white magic, when in fact, the distinction "does not exist, because magic is always a turn to the devil."

So black and white magic are both the same thing and both equally evil but Church magic, being neither black nor white I image, is just fine.

Did the rabbi mean that he gave directions over the phone on how to perform a circumcision?

OK, you scientists always want more, so here goes. As I remember the story, my Rabbi friend was unable, due to a storm, to get to the hospital where the circumcision was to take place. So he called it in. On the other end of the phone was a doctor. The Rabbi said the prayers and did the ritual and other important stuff over the phone and the doctor took care of the details.
