Today is the Day

Remember The Lords' Witnesses and the True Bible Code, well Mark Chu-Carroll at Good Math Bad Math hasn't forgotten them and he has an update. As you may remember, these folks have repeatedly failed in their efforts to predict a nuclear attack on the UN center in New York. They have taken each failure in stride and attempted to "debug" their "model." Now they say they understand where the real error was.

On April 29th we started predicting dates for a terrorist Nuclear Bomb at the UN in midtown. After making several mistakes we realised that 1 Kings 18:43 declared we would get it right at the 8th attempt.

In other words, had they truly understood "True Bible Code" they would have known that they would get it wrong seven times! I have read and reread 1 Kings 18:43 in both Hebrew and English and I just can't figure out what this has to do with the UN or with these latter-day prophets. What is their latest, eighth(?) and, therefore, final(?) prediction?

What we now propose is...
2006Ab15 (August 11/12) [7th sabbath lookout period after first mistake]

That's yesterday or today. There are only a few hours left. I'm monitoring CNN and will let you know if there is a nuclear attack in New York. Otherwise, feel free to go about your business. This latest prediction was made a few days ago.

Now here is the really funny part, they admit that a simple count of their failures today is nine not seven. In other words, they are now two predictions past the eighth and true attempt! How do they get around that little problem? Well, they don't count the first two because they did not specifically predict a nuclear attack, only some kind of an attack on the UN. See how easy this is?

They also claim a correct prediction about the UN: that it would "lose its head." "How did it lose its head?" you ask. Well, Israel attacked without UN permission.

I continue to wonder if this is a hoax. If so, these guys must be having the time of the lives.

Update: August 14, 2006

In case you have gotten the news, it seems that there was not a nuclear attack on the UN in New York over the weekend. The folks at the Lord's Witnesses noticed this two so the have done another recalculation and here is their new prediction,

We now predict a terrorist Nuclear Bomb will hit the UN plaza in Midtown Manhattan either on the sabbath of 2006Ab22 (Sundown Friday August 18th to Sundown Saturday 19th) or on the sabbath of 2006Ab29 (Sundown Friday August 25th to Sundown Saturday 26th)

Boys and girls, this is a hoax. We are supposed to laugh. And while they say, "So we have to say that presently we have no scriptural evidence for a nuclear terrorist threat to the UN in midtown after Saturday 2006August 26th." they are clearly setting the stage for the next chapter in this joke.

Duane,

Shouldn't we just "stone" these false prophets like the Hebrew Bible says? Just kidding.
