Following the Heard
Chris Heard took quiz on Beliefnet that supposedly identified his religion. So I thought I'd give it a try and see it worked any better for me. Here are my results.
1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (98%)
3. Nontheist (83%)
4. Liberal Quakers (81%)
5. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (79%)
6. Theravada Buddhism (65%)
7. Neo-Pagan (61%)
8. Bahá'í Faith (51%)
9. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (47%)
10. Taoism (47%)
11. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (44%)
12. Reform Judaism (42%)
13. New Age (40%)
14. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (34%)
15. New Thought (34%)
16. Orthodox Quaker (29%)
17. Sikhism (29%)
18. Mahayana Buddhism (28%)
19. Scientology (28%)
20. Jehovah's Witness (24%)
21. Eastern Orthodox (14%)
22. Islam (14%)
23. Jainism (14%)
24. Orthodox Judaism (14%)
25. Roman Catholic (14%)
26. Seventh Day Adventist (13%)
27. Hinduism (6%)
I'm not sure what I expected. The quiz clearly had better judgment when it came to me than it was in the case of Chris. My problem is I just don't believe that Secular Humanism and Nontheist are religions and I'm really not so sure about Unitarian Universalism. So I don't like the answer I got very well. I think it should have said, "you have no religion" rather than propagating the false idea that Secular Humanism and Nontheist are religions or religious beliefs. Heck they couldn't even bring themselves to say "atheist." But I don't like that term very much either. When asked, I tell people that I am a secular humanist and therefore have no religion.

I have never heard of the word "nontheist" before. Is it supposed to mean "not religious"?
I have never understood what "secular humanism" really means. I can understand the secular part, but the "humanism" or "humanist" doesn't quite make much sense. Can one be secular, but not a "humanist"? I suppose you could then be a "secular misanthrope".
