Professor Dr. Rudolf Wachter and The History of the Alphabet
I've been meaning to mention this for some time. Professor Dr. Rudolf Wachter of Universität Basel offers a course on the History of the Alphabet. Much of his course material is online. While the online text is in German, even those who may not read it can profit from the many illustrations he provides. There's a nice section on the various Semitic alphabets and a good picture of RS 88:2215, the South Semitic abecedary found at Ugarit. Oh yeah, he has a very good selected bibliography with only one link to a web post. Guess whose. Or if you don't like to guess, take the link.
