There is No Horror that Someone Can't Make Worse
CSB News is reporting that Westboro Baptist Church, which Jim West says is not Baptist, plans to picket the funerals of the Amish girls who were so tragically killed the other day. "Why?" you ask. Well here is what they say in their news release on the subject.
WBC to picket funerals of Pennsylvania school girls killed by a mad man in punishment for Gov. Ed Rendell's blasphemous sins against WBC - in religious protest and warning: "He suffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm." Psa. 105:14-15. For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge (avenge) his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Heb. 10:30-31.Gov. Ed Rendell - speaking and acting in his official capacity to bind the State of Pennsylvania - slandered and mocked and ridiculed and condemned Westboro Baptist Church on national Fox TV. Rendell also revealed a conspiracy to employ the State's police powers to destroy WBC in order to silence WBC's Gospel message. Co-conspirators identified by Rendell included state officials, citizens, lawyers, legislators and media.
Gov, Rendell killed them.
So let me get this straight. God caused a mad man to kill innocents as revenge for the Governor of Pennsylvania telling the truth on Fox TV. So its the Governor's fault and these characters plan to picket the funerals.
I didn't know that God got so upset when the truth was told on Fox News. If so, God must have really been upset with President Clinton the other night.
Perhaps this isn't something that I should joke about. I am somewhat comforted that the evil that befell those girls had nothing to do with any god. I am angered that that evil is being built upon and exploited by immoral people.
Update: October 5, 2006
Jim West has an update. These characters have decided to spread their hate on the radio rather than picket the Amish funerals. As Jim Says, this is "appeasement of the worst kind." Here is a paragraph from the Sun Hearld.
Church leaders, in a statement Wednesday, announced that they had dropped those plans and instead would appear on a nationally syndicated radio talk show. The Web site of show host Mike Gallagher indicated that the group was offered an hour of airtime Thursday morning in exchange for scrapping the demonstration.

I'd have thought not so much "appeasment" whether of worst or best kinds, rather a decent pastoral response to the pain that innocent Amish families must be suffering.
