Taanach 2: A letter from Ahiami to Talwashur
This is the second post in my series of translations and comments on the Taanach letters. The first post in the series has a few preliminary comments. I'm also building a link list to this series there. This post is a translation of the second of the Taanach letters.
Taanach 2: A letter from Ahiami to Talwashur
(obverse)
1) To Talwashur say;
2) Thus says Ahiami: May the Ba'al, the god,
3) watch over your life. You are a brother
4) and a loved one in this very place.
5) Now, you know (lit. it is in your heart) that
6) I have entered into an empty house,
7) so give me a small token (lit. finger):
8) 2 (chariot?) wheels and a bow
9) and 2 ????. Now,
10) if the bow is finished
11) being made, then send it to me
12) with (lit. in the hand of) Purdaya.
13) In addition, command your villages
14) that they do their work.
(Reverse)
15) I am responsible for (lit. on my head is) everything
16) that is produced in the villages.
17) Now, behold me,
18) I will do a good thing for you.
19) In addition, if there are (any) copper arrows,
20) then let them be given (to me).
21) In addition, allow Ilu-rapî to enter
22) into Rahābu and I will certainly
23) send my man to you.
24) And I will surely arrange a marriage.
