More Excuses! All I Ever Have are Excuses.
For about the last two or three weeks I thought that I was one good working day away from publishing my next mega-post on scribal schools. But sometime yesterday evening I realized that the approach I was taking to presenting the evidence and the arguments was not working. I don't mean that it wasn't saying what I hoped it would say. Rather, it wasn't saying much of anything. I had evidence; I had the positions of authorities on the subject and I had arguments but it wasn't at all clear how the three related.
So this morning I began a restructuring of the post. In the course of this, I've discovered a couple of small holes that need to be filled. This combined with a trip that will take me away from my computer for most of Thursday and Friday means that it may be another week before I'm ready to post. The delays have already been so long and so numerous that another week will go unnoticed; not terribly unlike anything I'm likely to have to say on this subject.

Argh! I hate it when that happens. Spend weeks fighting with a post to get it to say what you want it to say and it stubbornly refuses. So you scrap it and start over, at which point it all comes together. Leaving you to wonder why you had to spend all that time fighting it in the first place. All part of the writing process though, so what can you do?
