Richard Rorty Died Friday
I never met Richard Rorty but, in a strange way, he almost seemed a part of our family for several years. Two volumes of his essays and two of his books, Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature and Consequences of Pragmatism, are on my bookshelf. I even read them but please don't give me a test. While our children were in college and graduate school, his work was a frequent and often contentious topic of conversation at family get-togethers. Telos Press has a short obituary.

See Brian Leiter's remembrances and his evaluation of Rorty.
Daniel J. Solove and Mike O'Shea at Concurring Opinions have a few interesting comments and remembrances.
John S. Wilkins at Evolving Thoughts makes this remark, "I must say that what I learned from his work Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature, I had to unlearn later on. But that is the way of philosophical discussions." With which I can only concur.
Chris at Mixing Memory also shares this reflections.

The Washington Post has an obituary.
