Not in My Family
I think I've mentioned that Shirley is trying to fine at least one honorable person in either one of our backgrounds. So far she has traced part of her family line back to the 16th century and part of mine back to the 14th century. To date, she has had no luck in fulfilling the goal of her research. But she has come across a number of scoundrels. Over the last couple of days, she has been researching the Troxell family. Her mother was a Troxell. Shirley found the following two notes in the long out business Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Republican Compiler.
All persons are hereby warned not to sell or entrust anything to my wife Sara Troxell, on my account, as I am determined not to pay any debts contracted by her after this date.
David Troxell
Republican Compiler, March 13, 1832
Gettysburg, April 10th, 1825
I, John Meynock, residing near Gettysburg, do Certify, that I was sorely afflicted with the Rheumatic pains for two years - - and hearing of a preparation made by Samuel R. Smith, of Littlestown, Adams county, Penn., I procured two bottles, and I am now perfectly cured.
JOHN MEYNOCK
Witness present, John Troxell
So far, Shirley does not know the exact relationship between David Troxell and John Troxell but somehow she completely certain that neither of them are in her direct line. I'm a little afraid to ask her about that Samuel R. Smith fellow. Based on location and time, I think it very unlikely that he is in my line. But one never knows.
