On Learning Greek

John Habbins and Iyov are having a conversation that I'm tempted to get into but likely won't, at least for now. As part of a much larger point Iyov makes this observation,

. . . attempting to learn two languages simultaneously is problematic (there is an exception if the languages are closely aligned -- e.g., Hebrew and Aramaic; or Attic and Koine) . . .

This reminded me of what the learned classicist and occasional philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote in Beyond Good and Evil,

It was subtle of God to learn Greek when he wished to become an author – and not to learn it better [aphorism 121]
