Two Unfinished Works

Stop the presses:

I was about to post my translation and comments on the next section of the Ugaritic veterinary text KTU 1.85 when a new interpretation of this section occurred to me. The idea seems all too obvious. But why hadn't it occurred to scholars like Pardee and Cohen and Sivan who have spent a lot more time on this text than I have? Original, likely, ideas just don't come up that often. So I aborted the post until I can spend some quality time with the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary and Akkadisches Handwörterbuch. The Akkadisches Handwörterbuch is in my library but I need to go to my local university library to see the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary. I will also need to lookup a couple Akkadian texts that these dictionaries may (or may not) reference. I already know of one I need to look at. If I'm going to make a foolish suggestion it might as well be well documented. And then, I may discover that my great idea is completely unfounded.

Before and After:

Work on our new roof began today. Here is what our roof looked like last night.

Our old roof

And this is what it looks like this evening.

Our house without a roof

In case you can't tell, we no longer have a roof, just slats on top of which the roof will be added. I hope!

They tell me this is progress. As much as we need rain, I sure hope it doesn't come for a couple of days.

Three volumes of the CAD are available to you at home [L, T, Tet], eventually all the rest will be as well (as will all other publications of the Oriental Institute):

Chuck,

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, on this occasion I need B, P, Q and R.
