"It Depends on Who You Ask"
Jason von Ehrenkrook at Ancient Mediterranean Musings asks the pressing question, "Can Urine Desecrate an Idol?" He then turns to Rabbinic literature for an answer. I find this abnormally interesting in the light of my own musings on the underlying meaning of מַשְׁתִּין בְּקִיר in Biblical Hebrew and if the phrase need be understood as pejorative. If you don't know what מַשְׁתִּין בְּקִיר means, checkout one of my posts on this demanding subject.
Update October 17, 2007:
Please read Iyov's properly critical post on this subject and on how to read the Rabbis in general.

Jason manages to make every mistake in the book in his reading of Talmud. Read here for details.

Iyov,
Thanks for your comment and your post. In so far as I can tell, and I really don't know much about this, I think you are correct in your criticisms. I should have been somewhat more critical myself. I also found your comments helpful on my issue (pun intended).

Hi Duane. Thanks for your comments. I responded to Iyov's post in the comments on my blog, but I suppose I should have put some kind of disclaimer on the original post. My research focus is pre-Mishnah/Talmud, so I make no claims to being a rabbinics scholar. But I have been trying to expand my horizons a bit ... hence the recent couple of posts. In the future I will think twice about posting outside of my domain. I certainly don't mind having my (at times admittedly ignorant) musings critiqued (after all, how else can I learn!), but I was disturbed that my light-hearted post was misinterpreted as an antisemitic diatribe This was certainly not my intention!
On a different note, I enjoyed your "urine" posts and was not aware of this fascinating material.
