Off to San Diego
Tomorrow morning I'm off to San Diego and the first Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meeting that I've meaningfully attended in over three of decades. I have dropped by others on special occasions now and then but it was in the early 70's that I've last devoted more than one day to "the meetings."
Part of me is looking forward to it. I will mostly be hanging out at the various sessions on cognate literature and languages but plan to take in a couple of papers in other sessions. There are dozens of sessions and hundreds of papers from which to choose. I also plan to enjoy a party or two. Another part of me is dreading the long hours of working hard to mine the gems from often all too tedious papers.
While I'm gone, bogging will be light to nonexistent. I'm not very good at live blogging and I'm not completely sure what the network setup will be at the convention center or my hotel. Of course, if the world ends I will have a few comments on how such an event relates to the veterinary tablets from Ugarit.
