How Did I Do On My 2007 Predictions?
In January, 2007, I made ten predictions for the coming twelve months. Unless something quite unexpected happens in the next couple of hours, I think I'm safe in saying that I did very well: 92.5% correct. Some may question my giving myself any credit for prediction 5. And I suppose there may be someone who thinks me wrong on prediction 8 also. Is this record good enough to get my 2008 predictions published in the New York Times? I await their call.
- There will not be a massive attack on an American city killing many thousands, perhaps millions, of people. Grade: 100% correct
- California will not fall into the sea. Grade: 100% correct
- There will not be a major volcanic eruption that covers large urban areas anywhere in the world. Grade: 100% correct . I was worried about this for a while.
- Forest fires in California will destroy one or more homes. Grade: 100% correct, in fact, what actually happen well surpassed my modest prediction
- A hurricane will strike Florida also damaging property. Grade: 25% correct. While no hurricane directly hit Florida, tornados spun off from Tropical Depression Ten damaged around 50 homes on September 10, less damage was done by Subtropical Storm Andrea about May 9 and it fueled a couple of wild fires, about June 3 Tropical Storm Barry made landfall in Florida resulting in the death of at least on person but it also gave relief to drought conditions. Less honest prognosticators would have given themselves full credit for this and blamed the whole thing on God.
- The earth and the moon will remain in orbit. Grade: 100% correct
- Glaciers will continue to melt at higher than historic rates. Grade: 100% correct
- The second coming of Jesus Christ will not happen. Grade: 100% correct or 0% if he did return and no one noticed it.
- No universal cure for cancer will be found. Grade: 100% correct
- President Bush will not be as happy with this Congress as he was with the last one. Grade: 100% correct, don't believe me, count the vetoes
In a day or two, I will publish my predictions for 2008. I think the first 9 will be the same as for 2007. But then, I've been generally correct about these for the last decade of so. Why go against a winning trend?
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

How do you know that Bush didn't enjoy making those vetoes? Working with enemies is frequently less exasperating than working with friends!
