I-35 - God's Highway

This is a little hard to get my brain around.

Some of the faithful believe that in order to fulfill the prophecy of I-35 being the "holy" highway, it needs some intensive prayer first. So we watched as about 25 fervent and enthusiastic Christians prayed on the interstate's shoulder in Dallas.

They chanted loudly and vibrantly, making many people in the neighborhood wonder what was going on. They prayed that adult businesses along the corridor would "see the light" and perhaps close down.

They prayed for safety and freedom from crime for people who lived along the interstate. They prayed that all Americans would accept Jesus into their lives.

The woman who came up with the concept of "Light the Highway" is a Texas minister named Cindy Jacobs. [CNN report by Gary Tuchman]

Exactly what prophecy are these faithfully hoping to fulfill? Well, Isaiah 35:8 of course. Get it? I-35.

A highway shall be there, even a road;
and it shall be called the Holy Road.
Unclean shall not pass over it.

It shall be for them (the righteous?), traveler(s), a road.
Fools shall not wander around (on it).

This is my quick and dirty translation. Perhaps the last line is unduly influenced by the CNN story. There are a few textual problems that I chose to ignore and/or gloss. I also have assumed a rather uncommon grammatical structure in one place. With more time and skill, I might come up with something better. But I'll bet these folks prefer,

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools shall not err therein.[KJV]

Well, I guess I won't be going north out of Dallas any time soon. Check out the full extent of this foolishness on CNN's website. Sure not all Christian's agree with these faithful few but some do.

By the way, I live very near the I-10 of which it is written,

Cry aloud, O daughter of Gallim!
Listen, O Laishah!
Answer her, O Anathoth!

Let us pray.
