Not a Hiatus Just a Slowdown
Some of you may have noticed a lack of original content here at Abnormal Interests over the last few weeks. A couple of abnormal health related things have produced a nearly infinite time and emotion sink in our abnormal household. Nothing is directly life threatening but each needed (and one or two still needs) attention before they do become life threatening. The treatments, which include two outpatient surgeries, have been less stressful and time consuming than some of the diagnostic procedures. There is a significant arrogance in requiring someone to show up a half an hour before a scheduled appointment when the person with whom one has the appointment is running two hours behind schedule. And why do we need to fill out virtually the same medical history form with the same information at every stop. Haven't these people heard about databases and secure internet transactions? Several of the diagnoses and treatments have been at the same large university teaching hospital. Even there, we still need to fill out these medical history forms multiple times, as we shuffle from department to department. Don't they even have a copy machine?
Anyway, I have a couple of posts with original content half to two thirds completed and hope to post at least one of them over the weekend.

Duane,
I understand how you feel. Every time I go to my doctor, it is the same routine. Then, when you go to a new doctor, there are pages and pages you must fill providing the same information you have provided a thousand times before.
I hope you are feeling better and that whatever the abnormal situation, I hope that things will become normal again.

Hey Duane,
I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well. There's similar bureaucratic stupidity in the medical system north of the border. Hospitals are spending more money on architectural renovations instead of improving care and waiting times for Canadians. You'd think they would make better databases but then that would make things efficient and then how would the government waste money?
But I guess we have to realize what we have and most people in the world don't have adequate access to doctors at all, not even crabby compassionless ones like we have in Canada. Don't stress just take time to get well. And may your doctors have civilized bedside manner :)

Claude, Glen and Aydin,
Thank you very much for your expressions of concern. I should point out two things. First, I was purposely ambiguous about who in our abnormal household actually is having the medical issues. You naturally assumed that it is I. It is not I, at least not this time. But sometimes I think I am more anxious about the problems than the person it actually is. And I do go with her to all her appointments and try to be with her as much as the various medical facilities allow. She had to face a CT scan, a PET scan, and a MRI with me in the lobby. Doctors also seem to prefer that I not join them in surgery. With this, I agree. Second, while her problems are vexing and seemingly unrelated, her symptoms themselves cause her no discomfort. So she is not sick by any common meaning of the word.
Again, thanks for your concern.
