The New Attorney General As The President's Consigliere
Attorney General Michael Mukasey is concerned about "the scope and variety of potential terrorism threats.[CNN]" And somehow that is suppose to encourage Congress to turn their back on the Constitution and as a special bonus give retroactive immunity to the telecom companies who when along with warrantless wiretaps. And just how big is the problem?
When the law first lapsed several weeks ago, some intelligence may have been lost, but that the problem has been rectified, Mukasey said."There were a couple of days where we weren't working as smoothly [with the telecom firms]. That has since been put back together," he said. [CNN]
In other words, getting the needed information from the telecoms is no big problem without the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
Asked about the latest taped comments from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Mukasey shook his head. "Am I alarmed? I'm alarmed, I guess. I wish he weren't in a position to issue them." [CNN]
Now whose fault is that? Certainly not the fault of the House of Representatives for refusing to grant the telecom companies retroactive immunity.
By the way, someone needs to ask if the government signed indemnification agreements with the telecoms. I'll bet they did and I'm not alone. The telecom companies have loads of very good lawyers. I've negotiated contracts with a couple of them and every contract had a "hold harmless" clause somewhere.

Oh come on! Yikes we're now at Orange again, huh? Please stop. I am so sick of hearing that terrorists are hiding in my closets and I should shut up and let the Government that actually IS taking away my rights and freedoms do anything they want.
It is high time that the American voter faced their real problem, a 1984esque government that feels fully justified in lying to the American public and ruling them through fear and ignorance.
A government whose only agenda is lining their own pockets by selling America's military to the highest bidder. nad enriching themselves and their friends at the expense of Americas reputation.

This part, right here, gets me.
"Asked about the latest taped comments from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Mukasey shook his head. "Am I alarmed? I'm alarmed, I guess. I wish he weren't in a position to issue them."
That is, to me, the defining moment of a useless war. The moment that the US buggered off to go chase Saddam for no good reason. A lot of the crap going on right now may've been avoided had the US not gotten distracted by a new toy (Hussein) and instead had actually, to use a phrase so popular with the right wing, stayed the course and committed themselves to finding bin Laden.
Hell, at this point, we don't even know for sure that bin Laden masterminded the 11Sep01 attacks. He SAYS he did, others SAY he did, but then again, I shot JFK using a trained monkey and a cheesegrater. Just because I SAY it doesn't make it so.
So now we've gone from Evil Mastermind AG (Ashcroft) to Puppy That Only Wants To Please Master AG (Gonzales) to Andy Griffith.
This is just Smoke and Mirrors v3.0 and as long as Cheney is in power, it will continue to be just as it was.

Sadly, because of the lies of the government, King George et al, I don't believe the attorney general. I suspect strongly this is another ploy to push the King's agenda.
