A Still More Perfect Union
In order to form a more perfect union, I took the liberty of adding a couple of words to President Elect Obama's victory speech. I highlighted them in the quotation below.
If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.[snip]
Its the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled, and believers and non-believers - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.
I hope this was a simple oversight but I fear it was a calculated omission. The Obama campaign surely seemed happy to have my support and I was happy to give it. In fact, they kept asking for more. Now I ask that I, and millions of others like me, be included in the litany of Americans. Being old, white, straight and not disabled doesn't exactly do it for me.
