Syria: Now Available At JSTOR
Back issues of the journal Syria are now available at JSTOR. Anyone who has access to a JSTOR account can now download papers from the 1920 through the 2002 volumes.
Starting in 1929, the la revue Syria published the first papers on the discoveries of the alphabetic tablets from Ugarit. These old papers are still important resources. When possible, I always like to look at the editio princeps and Syria is that source for many Ugaritic texts. Among other things, Virolleaud's earliest transcriptions often show peculiarities in the writing that later, more stylized, transcription techniques obscured.
It's also good to see JSTOR offering additional foreign language journals. Now, if only they had a subscription plan for independent scholars and just plain amateurs. That would avoid otherwise unnecessary trips to the library.

Perhaps said independent scholars and amateurs could e-mail others with said access with their JSTOR requests thereby also eliminating said unnecessary trips to said libraries . . .

Jay,
Said independent scholars and amateurs just may email said persons with said access from time to time. In my own case, I am less than two miles from my local research library, so my issue is really one of laziness rather than one of access. And then there's the times I'd like to see something at 2:00 am. Both my kids are professors at major universities and I have taken advantage of them, never for JSTOR stuff but for other things that are sometimes even harder to get. And on couple of occasions, I have provided a via for people who have asked me to get hold of various things. At least one of them is a professional. That said, you are correct, in suggesting that if we all work together there is little that we cannot get hold of one way or another.
