This Is Our Moment
[My friend and teacher Loren Fisher wrote the following poem and kindly gave me permission to post it here.]
Flashes of insight, these things amaze me.
They renew our place among the nations;
They allow us to move forward with joy.
Barak Obama’s election qualifies.
A great moment brings flashes of insight,
And flashes of freedom from dull plodding.
And the rule of the neo-con empire.
The Oligarchs, who have ruined our dreams,
Will not be charged, but we will be free.
So a thunderous event energizes us anew.
We can grow and create; this is novel.
Yes, I’m amazed. Now, adventure can be ours.

Silly Jew with his irrational exuberance in this election - his elation at Bush's removal, race's transcension and puppy dogs for all appears to have evoked feelings silly for a reputable scholar to hold.
a) To the Americans that matter, little is likely to change with the Obama administration. Within the next four years millions of cancers will remain undiagnosed and millions of teeth will be pulled rather than drilled. May God make me eat those words.
b) It's a stain on our civilization that so stupid and ineffectual a man such as Bush could achieve the office for no reason other than his wealth and connections. It's furthermore a stain that Barack Obama (the man I supported as being the better of the two options) could achieve that office for no reason other than his race. He's not "the best of the best" or even remotely close to being such. He was in the right places at the right times and was the right color (at the right time), and thus he won the presidency. Men and women far far far more qualified than he don't have a snowball's chance in hell if they lack the required luck and the willingness to play dirty and stupid ("Yes we can!") when required.
c) Neo-cons! Those bad and evil neo-cons (a.k.a. Jews)! "I'm not that kind of Jew... I hate the neo-cons." Aint gonna do you no good Loren. Y'see, to the unwashed masses, Right and Left, "Neo-Con" is simply a useful substitute for the word "Jew". "Anti-Semitism" replaced "Judenhaas", "neo-con" has replaced "Jew" and more word finagling will continue in the future. Yet here you are buying into their propaganda. Neocons were, more than anything else, Wilsonian Democrats. You can say they're wrong or stupid or whatever but the allowance to actually despise the very word used to describe them is wholly antisemitic in nature. And, again, to the antisemite, you're as much a neocon as Charles Krauthammer.
The world today is pretty much the same as the world was yesterday. A tad prettier but no more than a tad.
