Following Duane's Law
I've mentioned Duane's Law before. Simply stated it claims, "Ceteris paribus, the amount of actual knowledge on any specific subject is inversely proportional to number of books on that subject in a general-purpose bookstore."
Even if he doesn't know it, I think Jerry Coyne is making a prediction based on my law.
Now Darwin Year is upon us, and we can expect more books like those by Kenneth Miller and Karl Giberson. Attempts to reconcile God and evolution keep rolling off the intellectual assembly line. It never stops, because the reconciliation never works.
In this case, the specific subject is the supposed intersection of science and theism.
Read Coyne's review of Saving Darwin: How to be a Christian and Believe in Evolution by Karl W. Giberson and Only A Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul by Kenneth R. Miller.
