Why Study Mark Twain?
Mark Twain scholars met last week at Elmira College in New York for The Sixth International Conference on The State of Mark Twain Studies. John Bird, one of their number, ambushed (his word) several other attendees and asked them why they studied Mark Twain.
Here's the video he produced of those ambushes.
I enjoyed the video very much. I even learned from it. But somehow, none of their answers seemed nearly as spontaneous, as funny, as deep, as complex, or as intelligent, as the man they study. I guess that's really why they study him.
