Claude Levi-Strauss Dies At 100.

The Los Angles Times reports,

Claude Levi-Strauss, widely considered the father of modern anthropology for work that included theories about commonalities between tribal and industrial societies, has died. He was 100.

The other day I joked in passing that Claude Levi-Strauss would rejoice at an observation I made about roles in healing rituals. There was a time when I found Levi-Strauss' work very appealing. Several of his books help populate my bookshelves. But, I'm no longer as intrigued as I once was. Even so, I'm still saddened by the news of his death.

Levi-Strauss' death marks the passing of an era. In some ways, the passing of what I once thought of as my era. I don't hold that opinion now either.
