Do It Yourself Spam

Should I really have to fill in my own name on a spam email? Recently my spam filter trapped an email that began as follows,

[FIRST_NAME], listen...

I'm not going to waste your time or insult your intelligence with petty hype and lame misdirection.

A time wasting bunch of hype and misdirection that would insult anyone’s intelligence followed.

I think it should be a minimum requirement that a spammer be able to get email merge to work.

Come to think of it, this isn't too different than the frequent "inheritance" or "payment" e-mails I receive that ask me for my name. If they don't already know my name how on earth do they know I am the right person?
