This Is Not An April Fools Joke
I have two grandchildren — Maggie is 11, Robert is 9. I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they're my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American. [Emphasis added]
So said Newt Gingrich at Cornerstone Church last Sunday. I guess he chose March 17 to avoid saying it today. Did anyone laugh at this? If he’d said something like that today I’m very sure just about everyone would think it a joke.
Even on April 1, he could have told his Cornerstone Church audience that he was convinced that the country would not be predominately Christian when his grandchildren were his age without anyone thinking it funny. To be sure, there would likely be more than a few questions but a worry about “a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists” can only go unquestioned or be laughed at.
By the way, I’m worried about the ocean turning red, potentially green in color.

I immediately thought of this exchange from _Raising Arizona_
(The scene is a bank robbery)
Gayle: "Okay, everybody freeze! Everybody down on the ground!"
(long pause)
Old Timer: "Well, which is it, young feller? You want me to freeze, or get down on the ground? Mean to say, if'n I freeze, I can't rightly drop. An' if'n I drop, I'm a-gonna be in motion. I mean t' say…"
Gayle: "Shut up!"
So, Newt, which is it, young feller?
