Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of the greatest American holidays – it centers on family and food – no gifts, no specifically religious ceremonial requirements or trappings, no ancient myths to celebrate. All our Thanksgiving myths are relatively recent and, as long as we remain inclusive in reciting them, generally benign.

But there’s a war on Thanksgiving. In fact, there are two wars on Thanksgiving. One war on Thanksgiving is being waged by retailers ever pushing back the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Climate change is waging the other war on Thanksgiving and just about everything else. It is in our hands to win or at least reach detente both these wars. We win one of them by waiting until Saturday to shop. In the case of the other of these wars, we've already waited far to long.
