Wilfred Lambert Dead
Sad news: Jack Sasson is reporting that Wilfred Lambert died today. It is almost impossible to read a paper or book on any aspect of Assyriology that does not reference something by Wilfred Lambert. I doubt that there is a single serious student of the Ancient Near East who has not read and learned from Lambert’s work.
Lambert continued to be active in retirement. Last year, while “excavating” in the British Museum, Lambert discovered fragment of the Cyrus Cylinder. A short time later, Irvine Finkel discovered a second one.
I’ll update this post when there is more to report.
