I Assume This Is Not A Joke

Poe’s law being what it is, it’s so hard to tell a joke from the real thing. That said, it appears that a group of folks are planning a conference in support of geocentrism, “Galileo was Wrong: The Church Was Right.” As PZ Myers points out, by the not so cleaver use of subtitles (“First Annual Catholic Conference of Geocentrism”) and location (“near Notre Dame”) they imply some kind of relationship with the Catholic Church, a relationship that almost currently certainly does not exist.
The good news is that you can buy “Galileo was wrong” shirts, mugs, tote bags, license plate frames and the like should you want to make a donation but can’t make the meeting.
One of the more disingenuous statements in the conference announcement defines geocentrism as “the dogmatic (sorry, I had some trouble typing this) academic belief that the Earth is immobile in the center of the universe.”
