I’m Back

I’m back from San Francisco and the SBL. I heard good and not so good papers well and not so well presented. Some good papers were well presented but less than half of them. Some not so good papers were also well presented. In one case, that’s how I came to know it was not a very good paper. But many not so good papers were also poorly presented. What I can’t figure out is why so many in this guild of professional communicators are so bad at communicating. I’ll bet that, on average, they are much better communicators with their students than with their peers.
It was very good to spend some time with Loren Fisher and his wife and several other friends that I don’t get to see as often as I would like. I do wish I had made it to the biblioblogger gathering but other parts of my life interfered.
Over the next couple of days, I’ll have a few things to say about a couple of the sessions I attended. But now I need to get the house ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

That’s my sense too (and my hope). In the classroom, they may work extemporaneously from notes, adjusting to feedback in real time on the basis of their understanding of the narrative they want to tell. Oh, to see this in our presentations! It’s a dream.
