More On Old Snails

It’s time for the Archaeo+Malacology Group Newsletter again. This time number 18. Of the several short notes in this edition, I found Henk K. Mienis’ “Ancient metal ‘weights’ in the form of bivalve shells” the most interesting. It appears that as early as the 5th century BCE people at Gamla made lead thingies in the form of bivalve shells. One interesting thing about this is, because of their considerable weight range, they were likely not weights. Mienis has some abnormally interesting speculation and asks for help in understanding these objects.
