Ed Brayton on Sarah Palin,
She is a celebrity without portfolio, the political version of Paris Hilton.
Here’s the larger context from Ed’s Dispatches From the Culture Wars.
She doesn’t want an elected position. That requires actual work. What she wants is exactly what she has now — an adoring fan base, fame and wealth and no real responsibility for anything. She is a celebrity without portfolio, the political version of Paris Hilton. And that is all she wants to be. But to keep the attention and the money flowing in, she has to keep pulling new stunts. Thus the bus trip.
Yep. But I’m not as sure as Ed is that she might not accidentally cross some line and discover much to her own chagrin that the only way she can keep the nonsense alive is actually to run for president and hope, like most of the rest of us, that she loses. There’d be a great book in it and loads of TV coverage plus a continuing role for her income generating PAC in the next election cycle.
This was my second choose for quotation of yesterday, also from Ed,
Miley Cyrus took to her Twitter account to hammer Rick Santorum for taking campaign contributions from a retail outlet she’s had a dispute with. I think Santorum should have a debate with her. Unlike Michelle Bachmann and her 16 year old debate challenger, Santorum would at least be up against his intellectual equal.
Yeah, it was a close call.
